Shanghai - Day 2

Managed to get a good sleep but woke early at 6.00am as we are still on Adelaide time. After a great breakfast with all the usual delights along with some Chinese style steamed buns etc we headed out for the Shanghai Museum.

It is a beautiful day clear blue skys and expected 27c. Expected to encounter more hazy skys from pollution but it is only slightly visible today. We notice most of the motorbikes are electric which is probably an intuitive to help with pollution even though there is many more cars to motorbikes. Still a few but not that many push bikes. They also have buses that run on tram like wires.

The museum was a good walk cutting through the People's Park which is very nice with lots of spring flowers. The museum has over one million pieces ranging from bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, jade and ivory, bamboo and lacquer wares,  coins, seals and artefacts of the ethnic marnorities.

The jade and bronze where my favourites. I never knew there were so many different types of jade. Hetian, Xiu, Nanyang, Lantian and Jadeite. All with their own beauty and colours. The ceramics looks just the same as you can buy from the local Asian supermarket or garden shop at home apart from some really nice blue and gold pieces which were quit impressive. The ethnic costumes were also worth a look.

After a quick stop at the digital plaza to checkout the computer gear and I bought a selfie stick then we headed back towards the hotel along the mall stopping at M&M World were they have a lot more varieties than we get. Shanghai is a very clean city for a population of 24 million and there is not as much traffic as i would of thought either, they must have good public transport unlike Adelaide. We stopped for lunch then headed back for a rest before meeting up again for dinner.

It is a beautiful night in Shanghai, about 25 and clear so a lot more people out and about tonight. Now I can tell I am in a very populated city. They say one million people walk down shopping street a day and tonight I can believe it. We headed to the Bund with everyone else but it was so worth it. The view along the river with the city lights is better than Hong Kong in my opinion. Took the photos then took a walk along the river amazed at all the brides having photos in their red wedding dresses. If I said there was 50 it could have been more. Apparently they have 3 dresses, traditional Chinese, red and then the white and they wear all 3 on the one day.

It was getting late so the hunt was on for a restaurant for dinner. Finally after walking for a while we found somewhere that took us up five flights of stairs to the VIP area. Hard to order as they did not speak English however the photos did help. The food was delicious and big serves even though our waitress tried to tell us they were small.

Fitbit steps today 25,137, 16.72km. Not a bad effort will have to double that to work off all this food however lol
