Shanghai - Tour Day 1

We met our fellow travelers fifteen of us in total so not too big or too small. Some from Australia and some from New Zealand and headed out to spend the day day exploring this gracious and cosmopolitan city. First stop was the Jin Mao Tower which is 88 stories high. Not the tallest building but the one with the best panoramic views of the city. The city is over 6000 square meters, 120km wide and as it was overcast today we didn't get to see as much as we could have but it was still very impressive. The view down the centre of the building was the most impressive however, I'm sure the photos won't do it justice.

From the tower we headed to the Yu Garden which was built under the reign of Ming Emperor Jiajing in 1559. It covers two hectares and is famous for a number of architectural marvels including a large rockery garden. Around the garden is a really nice market with beautiful Chinese style buildings which we did a quick walk around before heading back to the bus. They call this area Old China Town.

Next we did the sound and light show in the unique ‘cable car’ tunnel ride beneath the Huangpu River to Pudong on our way to lunch at a restaurant on the Bund.

After lunch we did a river cruise taking in the amazing architecture of the city which was also very relaxing before heading to a Peal Shop. We upgraded to the VIP area on the cruise for about $8aus which included a drink and chips or nuts. This entitled us to sit on the top deck chairs under a canopy, Bargain. I didn't intend to buy anything at the Peal Shop but in the end i bought a golden pearl ring to match mine at home and Jody bought a string of white pearls.

After dinner we spent the evening at an acrobatic show. Some very good acrobatics, some I had not seen before like the eight girls on a push bike and eight motorbikes in a dome. This was insane, one false move and boom. Very enjoyable and very worth going to see.

Got back to the hotel and headed to the mall to stock up on wine for the cruise and stretch the legs.

Fitbit steps today only 14,170, 9.42km. Too much time on the bus lol
