Our driver was waiting for us at the train station and took us to our very nice hotel Central Hotel Shanghai which we will call home five nights. The trip crossed the river and gave us a quick view of the city as it started to get dark as the city lights came on.
The hotel is just off the Bund (waterfront) so we will check that out tomorrow. Quick shower to freshen up and we headed out for some dinner and get our bearings around the area. Rooms are very very nice and we can get wifi. Family Mart next to hotel where Noel and Stephen got proposition by some ladies on the street whilst getting supplies lol. I expect this in Thailand and Bali but I didn't expect it within 15 minutes of arriving at the hotel in China.
It is cool and and drizzling a bit but you can still see this amazing city all light up. Sunny and 25 tomorrow apparently. Our hotel is one street away from the shopping/restaurant street so we head for our first adventure down the mall where Mark lead us up two flights in this food market where we find a few restaurants. When we discover a waitress who speaks English quite well we choose that one. We had dishes from spicy beef risotto, wantons, beef noodles, spring rolls and pork ribs. All very nice. Donna and I did have a bad experience ordering some yellow wine that tasted like Vegemite and vinegar. Won't do that again lol.
Walked a bit more down the huge mall after dinner and found M&M World. Must go back there. At 11pm (12.30pm ADL) we then started feeling the effects of our long day which started at 3.30am so headed back to the hotel for a well deserved sleep.
